Peter Collins was a very talented race driver who almost won the 1956 Formula one championship. During a crucial race, Fangio's car had an engine failure. Collins let the Argentinian champion take his car during a pit stop and permitted him to take his fourth Formula one champion tittle. but this painting refers to the 1957 Nurburgring Grand Prix. Hawthoen and Colliss were leading the race with ease, but after a calamitous pit Stop, Juan Manuel Fangio drove at 120 %, taking all the risks and finally caught up the two young pilots. Hawthorn and Collins can't comptete as the tyres of their Ferrari are totally worn. They see the elder Argentine champions passing them and rushing to the victory. That's why I called this painting "I did all that I could". It resumes Peter Collins melancholy. Painting avalaible. Price on request.
