Nous sommes en 1917. Au petit matin, l'escadrille SPA 150 s'apprête à escorter un avion d'observation. Un mécano lance l'hélice de l'avion du Lieutenant Decaix. Le Maréchal des logis Chavastelle, sur l'avion n°5, jette un coup d'oeil distrait au chien Domino qui est la mascotte de l'escadrille... A gauche, au premier plan, un infortuné pilote vient voir un officier pour lui signifier que son moteur vient de rendre l'âme.
